Job Summary

Location: Franklin, LA

The person holding this position is responsible during his/her shift for all personnel and equipment involved in the production of electricity and reports directly to the Operations Manager. He or she plans, coordinates, supervises, monitors, and controls all on-shift operations. As the senior individual on duty, he or she has the responsibility and authority to take whatever actions may be necessary to protect people, the environment and equipment.

Key Accountabilities
  • Oversees all station operations, including startup, shutdown, inspection, routine chemical sampling, all switching and tagging, equipment troubleshooting, writes, reviews, and revises operating and related procedures.
  • Ensures that all site safety and environmental requirements and procedures are properly implemented and takes corrective actions as necessary.
  • Plans, directs and performs housekeeping duties. Ensures housekeeping standards are maintained or initiates corrective action, as required.
  • Complete or cause to be completed all required reporting.
  • Assists the Regional Operations Manager in facets of site administration and power plant management. Maintains administrative documents, preparation, justification and control of annual operations and maintenance budgets. Generate reports and initiates action to replenish consumables.
  • Provides advice and counsel to the Regional Operations Manager regarding the technical and administrative conduct of shift operations.
  • Monitors planned daily operations schedule.
  • Assists in the orientation, training, development, performance evaluation, selection process for new employees and promotions, and assures high work quality of Technicians and contractors.
  • Serves as the site representative after normal hours.
  • Plans, directs, and supervises routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; supports corrective maintenance efforts on all equipment.
  • Communicate with other company personnel on-site and at other locations. Represents the company with the client, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel.
  • Maximizes plant efficiency and shareholder value without compromising personnel and equipment safety, environmental compliance or the long-term commercial viability of the facility.
  • Available to work during outages, planned and unplanned, performs tasks that require physical exertion and is expected to occasionally respond to off-hour call-ins when required.
  • Establishes and maintains high personal and professional standards of safety and environmental conscientiousness and compliance.
  • Supports all departments and performs other duties necessary to fulfill plant requirements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of five (5) years of power plant experience in operations and/or maintenance is required to provide the following:

  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of power plant safety policies and procedures, especially in the areas of high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, and first aid.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
  • Functional knowledge of subordinate and peer duties and responsibilities.
  • Basic knowledge of or ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, chemistry, water treatment process, thermal dynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding operation of valves, switches, controls, keyboards and other devices associated with power plants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the operation and maintenance of a steam turbine generator.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply technical information, including mechanical and electrical drawings (such as blueprints, P&IDs, single-line diagrams and schematics) to problem-solving situations and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate work on technical subjects with others across job families and with outside vendors.
  • Operating and maintenance experience with various analytical and test equipment.
  • Well-developed skills in leadership and interpersonal relationships.
Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Experience as a qualified Shift Supervisor is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Technical training and demonstrated ability to perform successfully in similar work environments preferred.

  • Use computers with exposure to video display terminals; and some repetitive motion associated with data entry, the use of a computer mouse, and while using other office equipment.
  • Possess the following vision requirements: close, color, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Perform job duties in a business office setting from a climate-controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level, and out at the plant site, where noise level is moderate to loud.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery.
  • Occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • Be in a work environment that is usually quiet to moderate in the office but may become loud at the plant site.
