Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking a Manufacturing Representative to support Focus Factory Operations with Construction Readiness at our Quonset Point, RI location.

Motivated Manufacturing Representatives will:

    Take part in building the most complex product in the world
  • Set up EB's submarine construction work force for successfully delivering them on time and within cost
  • Continuously look for ways to improve submarine construction performance

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • The Focus Factory Construction Readiness team is looking for Manufacturing Representatives to implement and improve our production system
  • Selected candidates will serve as an advocate for Operations to help ensure an optimal environment is in place for construction and storage of VA & CLB Class Submarines
  • Responsibilities may include Facility Planning, Work Center Implementation and Optimization, Construction Readiness Reviews, Strategic Sourcing decisions and critical asset/equipment/spatial demand and capacity analyses
  • Travel to Factories and evaluate work progress, conduct meetings, and communicate plans and presentations.

The ideal candidate will evaluate the required spatial and other critical asset demands, Create Construction Readiness Reviews, establish & execute projects to ensure sufficient capacity is available to support this demand; define locations and layouts of work centers, submarine modules, and supporting equipment, as well as determine flow paths and access requirements. Selected candidates must regularly interface with Operations Management, Ship's Management, Program Offices, Facilities Master Planning team, and Strategic Sourcing Team.



Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant heavy steel construction experience
  • Ability to travel several times a year, at times with minimal advanced notice

Preferred:

  • Operations or Planning experience in ship building
  • Leadership and military experience are a plus
  • Project management skills with production experience


Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, networking ability, and business acumen
  • The candidate will need to be able to work independently
  • Candidates must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as change agents to remove barriers that hinder change
  • Ability to work alone or in a group setting
  • Experience with Microsoft products
  • Candidates must be able to identify conflicts, develop plans to resolve issues, and recommend/apply potential improvements
  • Ability to access the shipyard and climb aboard modules
