The Engineer, Distribution Planning performs planning on projects of moderate complexity in the assigned electrical engineering field for the safe, reliable, and effective installation and operation of facilities.



Location: Hybrid (see below), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex



Responsibilities:

* Performs specific design, engineering, economic, and investigative assignments, and planning for the installation, revision, or rehabilitation of facilities for projects of moderate complexity.

* Performs system modeling, load flow, protective device coordination, and other technical studies. Prepares reports with conclusions and recommendations on findings.

* Assists other engineers with studies of higher technicality to help fulfill departmental goals and objectives.

* Consults with and receives advice from superiors, peers, and vendors to become thoroughly familiar with an assignment and to obtain necessary design and cost information.

* Inspects sites of proposed installations to facilitate preparation of connection recommendations and rehabilitation proposals.

* Help support and develop new and/or existing business cases through the capital project planning process.

* Conducts analysis of distribution network loading and operation for voltage, overload, and performance problems and recommend correction plans. Provides distribution circuit analytical support as requested and supports the Advanced Grid Technologies and Interconnection teams.



Education/Experience:

* Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college required.

* Three (3+) or more years' related experience required.

* Valid drivers' license required.

* Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

* Engineer In Training (EIT or FE) Certification or Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.

* Utility or similar experience preferred.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Experience with power system simulation software such as CYME, PSS\E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP, etc.

* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint

* Strong attention to detail.

* Adaptability, flexibility, and comfort with working in a fast-paced environment.

* Ability to work well with others in a team atmosphere.

* Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage various priorities.

* Ability to multi-task.

* Prompt executor.

Physical Requirements:

* In-office and field activities are driven by occasional role-specific tasks and critical business processes.

* Must be able to work in various substation facility conditions (walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders, working safely nearby energized equipment, etc.) as required.



Scope:

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one's own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work activities are typically moderate to complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently.



Decision Impact

The problems and issues faced are vague. Incumbent draws on past experience on a regular basis. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.



Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company. Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.



Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
