DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be actively involved in the repair and restoration of a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and heavy machinery. This position offers you the opportunity to acquire practical experience in the maintenance and repair of various equipment, such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your duties will include diagnosing repair needs and assisting in the replacement of critical components, including shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. You will also be tasked with performing wheel balancing and alignment checks, executing minor body repairs, and testing, repairing, or replacing alternators and other electrical components.
Moreover, you will engage in preventative maintenance activities to ensure that vehicles and equipment operate at peak efficiency. Your responsibilities will extend to automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and the repair or replacement of engine subassemblies. You will be required to adjust and repair various systems, including cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning, while also maintaining fuel injection, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Additionally, you will assist in the repair or rebuilding of construction or shop equipment, contributing to the overall functionality of the fleet.
As part of your responsibilities, you will participate in official state inspections for safety and emissions on designated vehicles, as applicable. This will involve conducting necessary repairs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, performing road tests, and completing inspection stickers to be affixed to vehicles. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation, ensuring that all inspections are thoroughly recorded and compliant with state regulations.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Shifts may vary seasonally, due to weather, and/or based on operational needs
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
working in the automotive field; or - Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires employees to possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
