Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manager of Marine Operations and Logistics to lead and optimize our marine fleet and construction aggregates distribution. This pivotal role is integral to our divisional success, overseeing all aspects of tugboat and barge operations as well as the associated logistics and personnel management. The Manager of Marine Operations and Logistics will ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of materials, contributing significantly to our overall operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Oversight: Manage and direct the daily operations of a fleet of tugboats and barges, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and company policies. This includes optimizing vessel scheduling, cargo loading/unloading, and route planning for maximum efficiency and safety.

  • Logistics Management: Develop and implement strategic logistics plans to support the movement of materials, including coordination with various internal and external stakeholders. Analyze transportation data to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead a dedicated team of marine employees, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement. This includes direct supervision of approximately 60 marine employees (including boat captains, mates, and deckhands) as well as indirect oversight of additional personnel.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all marine safety regulations, environmental protection standards, and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Maintenance & Repair Coordination: Collaborate with the Maintenance department to schedule and oversee routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs of all marine assets, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational readiness.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage operational budgets for marine activities, monitoring expenditures and identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising safety or efficiency.

  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for marine operations and logistics. Regularly monitor, analyze, and report on performance, identifying trends and recommending strategic adjustments.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with other divisional leaders quarry managers, distribution yard manager. Work with external partners such as vendors, port authorities, and regulatory bodies, to ensure seamless operations and achieve organizational objectives.

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the long-term strategic planning of the marine division, including fleet expansion, technology adoption, and process improvements.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Maritime Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in marine operations and logistics, with a significant portion in a leadership or managerial role.

    • Proven experience managing a fleet of tugboats and barges.

    • Strong understanding of maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.

    • Experience with logistics software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is highly desirable.

  • Certifications: Relevant maritime certifications (e.g., Master's License, Towing Endorsement) are highly advantageous.

  • Skills:

    • Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant industry software.

Work Environment

The role involves a combination of office-based work and regular site visits to marine vessels and operational facilities. The Manager of Marine Operations and Logistics will be expected to respond to operational needs outside of standard business hours when necessary.

Salary Range. The base salary range for this role is between $120,000 to 150,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
