Purpose This position is responsible for the physical maintenance and care of restoration and conservation sites in rural and wildland environments. The role involves hands-on fieldwork including vegetation management, invasive species removal, site preparation, and ongoing maintenance activities to support habitat restoration projects. Daily tasks include manual labor such as weed removal, brush clearing, and site improvements using hand tools and equipment. This fieldwork is essential to maintaining healthy ecosystems and ensuring the success of conservation efforts on rural properties. Focus & Scope Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below: Technical/Specialty Area Actively participate in the implementation and maintenance of habitat restoration projects, including but not limited to tree/shrub plantings, irrigation, invasive weed management, and herbivory control. Direct and work with labor crews, including temporary labor staff, in the field to complete tasks. Assists in the collection and reporting of various monitoring requirements. Occasionally operate small equipment (i.e., tractors, bobcats, loaders, and backhoes) for seeding and other specialized restoration projects (i.e., wetland construction, test plots, etc.). Install, operate, and maintain various irrigation systems, including both manual and automated systems. Maintain, repair and organize tools, vehicles and other equipment. Ensure that work-related equipment and tools are in good, safe condition. Conduct extensive weed abatement in both upland and wetland environments using weed-eaters, herbicides (via backpack sprayers and ATV), and manually by hand. Clearly communicate with supervisor on status of projects, including staffing and equipment needs, schedules, potential constraints, etc. Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, company employees, and external customers. Work extensively for long periods of time on various site conditions. Work safely in rough terrain, inclement weather, and other environmental situations. Qualifications and Requirements Experience & Industry Minimum 6-months to 1-year of experience conducting habitat restoration projects, including implementation and maintenance activities. Specific Job Requirements Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation Valid Driver's License Current on all company required safety training Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest Knowledge of Standard Operating Policies and Procedures Ability to consistently appear for work on time Ability to work authorized overtime as required Valid CA driver's license and good driving record Demonstrated ability to work independently and supervise others Possess the strength and agility to perform maintenance work in an outdoor setting for long periods Possession of or ability to obtain Pesticide Applicator's Certificate within one year of hire General knowledge of local flora and weed species Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment Equipment Used: Automobile (truck), ATV, small tools and various equipment. Carrying loads of 30-40 pounds for extended periods, with occasional lifting of heavy loads up to 90 pounds. Frequently works alone in remote areas. Works occasionally on projects requiring overtime and overnight stays. HOURLY BASE SALARY RANGE: $25.20 - $28.80 The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
