The Research Nurse on the Mobile Health and Wellness Unit provides both direct patient care and supports HRSA grant research initiatives. This role delivers primary care, preventive services, immunizations, point-of-care testing, and health education to underserved populations in community-based settings. The Research Nurse also collects and manages clinical data, ensuring compliance with research protocols and contributing to evidence-based interventions. Working closely with the interdisciplinary team and community partners, the Research Nurse promotes health equity and improved access to care.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, screens, and schedules participants for the ENRICH Project, conducting interviews, evaluations, and informed consent. Performs nursing assessments, point-of-care testing, and documents results in patient charts.
  • Coordinates laboratory testing, exams, and case report form completion. Notifies participants of results, discusses treatment plans, and provides patient education on diagnoses, medications, and therapies.
  • Implements patient education materials and instructs patients, families, and healthcare providers on care plans and research protocols.
  • Monitors patient progress, reviews critical clinical events with agency staff, and makes care recommendations under the direction of licensed providers.
  • Manages and coordinates all research-related activities for the ENRICH Project from initiation through follow-up.
  • Recruits, screens, and enrolls eligible participants, conducting interviews and obtaining informed consent in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Collects, records, and maintains accurate clinical and research data, including completion of case report forms and entry into secure databases.
  • Coordinates laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up assessments to meet study protocol requirements.
  • Ensures timely reporting of results to participants and the research team, and implements procedures for data monitoring, quality assurance, and project evaluation.
  • Collaborates with investigators, medical staff, and community partners to support study objectives, maintain compliance with institutional and federal regulations, and contribute to the dissemination of research findings.
  • Provides orientation, information, training and assistance for new nursing personnel, medical students, researchers, residents and fellows to the project activities.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-service education of nursing and medical staff. Supervises Graduate Assistants, medical student volunteers, nursing students.
  • Conducts training (face-to-face) of team members related to their accountabilities and providers related to utilizing information system and tools and maintaining high quality.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  2. One year of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
