The UW Oshkosh Police Department is actively seeking experienced and certified law enforcement professionals to join our team and support our mission of ensuring campus safety and security.

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the UW Oshkosh Police Officer serves a community of around 11,000 students and employees; covering 58 buildings on 184 acres along the Fox River in the heart of Oshkosh. UW Oshkosh Police Officers are sworn law enforcement professionals (State of Wisconsin LESB certified) who exercise full statutory arrest authority while carrying out the Department's mission: to serve our community by building relationships, reducing fear, and solving problems - treating every person with the fairness and respect we would want for ourselves, and approaching every interaction as an opportunity to make a positive difference.

This Continuous Recruitment Pool is designed to meet the department's evolving staffing needs in the following areas:

1. Full-Time Police Officer Positions
Candidates will be considered for Police Officer positions as vacancies arise within the UWOPD.

2. As-Needed Staffing

In this role, the individual would be available to cover open shifts on an as-needed basis, providing essential support services to ensure the smooth operation of the department. These certified law enforcement professionals would be expected to respond to short-notice shift openings due to absences, special events, or increased operational needs.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community
  • Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others
  • Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information
  • Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
  • Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community

Department: University Police

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED

  • Valid Driver's License

  • No domestic abuse convictions

  • No felony convictions

  • Ability to possess a firearm

  • U.S. Citizen
