The College of Education is accepting applications for a part-time Fiscal Technician. The Fiscal Technician represents JMU in all interactions and must exhibit high standards of professionalism, attention to detail, and customer service. Duties and Responsibilities: Budget Monitoring:
- Track expenditures against budgets for active grants.
- Reconcile monthly budget reports and resolve discrepancies
Financial Processing:
- Process travel pre-approvals and reimbursements, use of SPCC, purchase requisitions, and invoice payments tied to grants.
- Ensure correct use of account codes and documentation.
Communication:
- Coordinate communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with principal investigators, departmental finance, and central grants offices.
- Provide guidance to faculty/staff on post-award fiscal procedures.
Payments by ePAR, Skilled Service agreements or IRB participants:
- Create and process MOU's for payments via the ePAR system either currently on JMU payroll or having been paid by JMU in the last 12 months
- Complete all hiring of wage and/or student support and any time entry for payroll
- Complete Skilled Service acknowledge form with W9 forms for payments to individuals being contracted to perform grant supporting work. Work through Procurement to obtain any necessary approvals.
- Follow IRB protocols through the Financial procedure guidelines
Reporting & Audit Support:
- Assist in preparing periodic financial reports for PIs and funding agencies.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
Compliance & Policy Adherence:
- Monitor spending to ensure alignment with sponsor terms and conditions.
- Stay current on federal, state, and institutional grant policies.
Qualifications: Required:
- Knowledge of financial documents, procedures, and financial software.
- Experience in learning approval systems, record-keeping systems, and data management systems
- Experience in learning policies and regulations
Additional Considerations:
- Previous finance experience or knowledge of accounting or related field.
- Experience with post-award grant support.
