The Patient Access Educator will serve as a resource for all Health System employees in relation to registration and scheduling questions. Directs and coordinates initial training and ongoing competency skills assessments. Facilitates learning and development of critical thinking skills utilizing a variety of teaching methods. Facilitates Epic training, departmental training, and orientation classes of personnel hired to perform Patient Access functions.

This role will travel between Kearney Regional Medical Center, Merrick Medical Center and Grand Island Regional Medical Center to train others, as well as occasional travel to Lincoln, especially during the first months as a new hire. The position will be predominantly teaching in Kearney Regional Medical Center due to classroom and availability and size.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Understands and operationalizes federal regulations regarding Advance Directives, COBRA, medicare, Corporate Compliance, Accreditation Agency, OSHA and HIPAA, reports safety and customer concerns to Management.

3. *Obtains Epic Certified Trainer (CT) certification and facilitates Patient Access Epic classes for new hires throughout Bryan Health System.

4. *Assists Patient Access leadership in scheduling Patient Access staff training.

5. *Demonstrates competency and proficiency with respect to all patient access procedures; maintains knowledge of policy, technical and procedural changes.

6. *Coordinates the Patient Access training program for all personnel; revises curriculum of training program as needed under the direction of the Patient Access Director and other leaders.

7. *Provides an appropriate climate for learning to promote individual or group mastery of competencies to convey Patient Access principles accurately and concisely in classroom and clinical settings.

8. *Leads department-wide initiatives focused on superior customer experience.

9. *Assists with policy/procedure review and writing as directed by the Patient Access Director and other leaders.

10. *Maintains accurate documentation of training as required by medical center policy.

11. *Supports Patient Access leaders in the implementation of new procedures or processes through training and communication activities.

12. *Performs and documents direct observations on patient access personnel to check for proficiency in policies and procedures.

13. *Coordinates post-orientation on-the-job patient access training for staff as assists as applicable.

14. *Maintains patient access mentor program to help ensure competency continuity from initial training period to routine work performance.

15. *Capable of performing all duties and job functions related to the Patient Access roles in order to effectively train specified roles and provide coverage as needed.

16. *Demonstrates knowledge of medical center safety policies and procedures and provides safety training for employees or visitors as assigned.

17. *Ensures each patient interaction is positive and provides compassion and empathy utilizing mandatory customer service tactics as required by policy/procedure.

18. *Participates in patient access department quality assurance and quality improvement activities as directed.

19. *Assists in the development of annual patient access competency training for staff.

20. *Administers annual patient access competency training and evaluations for staff.

21. Provides at the elbow (ATE) support for all Bryan Health Entities as needed.

22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to promote continuous self-development.

23. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

24. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalency required. Minimum of one (1) year experience performing patient access functions required.
