Job Summary:
|
Marist University seeks applications for the position of Lead Officer. The Lead Officer is responsible for training, overseeing, and instructing department officers to properly perform their safety and security duties and provide excellent customer service to all members of the Marist community. This position supports the institutional ideals of excellence in education, a sense of community, and a commitment to service. The Lead Officer is responsible for ensuring professional and courteous service by the Security Officers on the shift during routine operations. The Lead Officer is also responsible for ensuring a timely, coordinated, and efficient response by Security Officers on the shift during crisis situations and making related incident response decisions based upon department standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of full-time verifiable security-related experience
- Possess a valid New York State Security Guard license
- Possess a valid New York State Driver's License with no serious convictions
- Ability to obtain Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
- Must be available for flexible hours and on-call status

Essential Functions:
|
- Train officers on department standard operating procedures (SOPs), patrols, dispatching, equipment, report writing, etc.
- Issue directives made by Director of Campus Safety and Associate Directors of Campus Safety
- Communicate with other shift supervisors including obtaining and providing a proper turnover before and after each shift.
- Carefully review daily operational commitments including special events and related Campus Safety support requirements.
- Assign officers to patrol areas and post assignments and conduct shift briefings.
- Respond to all incidents and campus community reports involving a fire, medical emergency, crime, and/or student conduct issue, as well as general requests for Campus Safety assistance.
- Coordinate response to calls requiring assistance by law enforcement, fire, EMS, or college support services.
- Make officer case report review entries in department online management system.
- Review and inform officers of policy changes, SOP updates, and special orders.
- Inform and assign officers of special details / assignments occurring on shift.
- Review officer activity reports and case reports for accuracy and comprehensiveness prior to forwarding to senior staff for final review / approval.
- Make notifications to the Director of Campus Safety and/or Associate Directors of Campus Safety regarding important information or incidents of a sensitive nature.
- Conduct initial review of officers' leave requests and make recommendations to management for approval or denial the requests based on operational commitments and shift minimum staffing requirements
- Monitors for adherence to articles in the Security Police Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) collective bargaining agreement, Marist University Policies, and Director of Campus Safety directives.
- Observe performance of officers, conduct training and coaching, and report performance deficiencies to management.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work environment for faculty and staff and residential learning environment for all students. Treat all campus community members with professionalism, courtesy, care, and respect.

The position includes a comprehensive benefit package*. Benefits for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- 2 weeks of paid vacation years 0-3. 3 weeks of paid vacation years 4-7. 4 weeks of paid vacation years 8+.

- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- College pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
