The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations. Our Safety Team also helps advise on compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations. In this *remote role you will be based in an approved location and report to our Head of Safety Best Practices. You will:
- Standards Compliance Program Development and Implementation: Lead the creation, updating, and enforcement of comprehensive compliance policies and procedures aligned with state of the art industry best practices. This includes outlining duties necessary for regulatory adherence in support of requirements obtained by the legal team.
- Auditing and Assessment: Lead the planning and execution of regular internal audits, assessments, and gap analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance procedures, identify areas of non-compliance, and track progress.
- Cross-functional Planning/Coordination: Support, and as needed lead, the determination of factors that shape prioritization across different compliance efforts, in conjunction with a complex cross-functional ecosystem inclusive of engineering, product, data science, and legal/regulatory groups.
- Risk of Non-Compliance Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with non-compliance. Develop risk registers, implement corrective actions, and collaborate with risk management teams to shield the organization from potential damages.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all compliance activities, audit findings, and corrective actions. Prepare comprehensive reports to provide insights into the compliance program's effectiveness for Waymo's leadership.
- Procurement and Collaboration : Coordinate and facilitate engagement with external auditors and certification bodies during audit processes. Develop plans for exercises requiring the support from external vendors and consultants, in conjunction with Waymo's procurement office.
You have:
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing compliance programs (min. 10 years). Strong preference for compliance programs within an automotive OEM in conjunction with type approval and homologation requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in leading documentation, operationalization, and process improvement within a technical or safety-critical compliance domain.
- A current certified auditing credential is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in tooling and operational aspects connected with a compliance program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate compliance requirements, train employees, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Project management skills to manage compliance initiatives, track progress, and meet deadlines.
We prefer:
- Prior experience in validation of virtual testing toolchains (e.g., simulation credibility and validation assessments) and related compliance exercises.
- Prior experience in the processing of Closed Course testing (e.g., NCAP) results
- Direct participation into standardization activities for the drafting and/or revisions of automotive industry standards.
- Familiarity with the Automated Driving System (ADS) industry sector is desirable, especially in conjunction with standardization activities specific to ADS applications.
- Familiarity with Waymo's approach to safety and its safety case is desirable.
- Track-record of contributions to published scholarly literature

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
