Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the UMMH power plants, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system and all related equipment. Supervises and assigns all regularly scheduled and per-diem personnel as well as service contracts as needed. This position is the primary point of contact for matters pertaining to daily plant operations.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Manages the operation and maintenance of the Power Plants. Operates the HVAC, water treatment and piping systems within the Power Plants. Maintains the efficient operation of the central heating and air conditioning systems including the maintenance and repair of the central chiller, cooling towers and all associate controls.
2. Supervises and directs all work associated with the maintenance and repair of all components of the CHP system. Reviews maintenance activities each month to ensure all maintenance staff understand how to perform the required maintenance tasks.
3. Estimates the heating and cooling demands of the hospitals and ensures efficient operation of all central boilers and chillers to meet these demands. Monitors and regulates starting devices, adjustment levers and throttles to stop, start and vary speeds of pumps, blowers and other auxiliary equipment found within the Power Plant. Checks meters and gauges of operating equipment and corrects any unusual conditions.
4. Inspects equipment and follows related maintenance procedures. Inspects boilers, pumps, motors, etc. at periodic intervals and notes any malfunctions or necessary repairs and/or adjustments required. Ensures that all inspections and preventative maintenance work and routine maintenance is being maintained
5. Develops, schedules, and coordinates maintenance (preventive and corrective) routines for each piece of equipment associated with the CHP. Integrates routines with existing UMMH computerized maintenance management system. Reviews the status of all scheduled maintenance activities to ensure timely completion of all work orders. Develops a spare parts and materials list in support of upcoming maintenance activities.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
2. 2nd class engineer's license.

Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree.

Experience/Skill:
1. Over 7 years related experience.
2. Leadership skills, with the ability to motivate others.
3. Excellent problem-solving skills.
4. Strong time management skills.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
