Position Overview

The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the first point of contact for patients, providing high-quality, professional service during the specimen collection process. This role is responsible for collecting quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and maintaining patient trust through clear communication, professionalism, and safe collection practices. The PSR I demonstrates leadership behaviors, process excellence, and a strong commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and patient care. This position operates in a high-volume environment and requires efficiency, attention to detail, and flexibility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform daily work activities accurately and on time under the supervision of the area supervisor
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for patients and coworkers
  • Collect and process clinical and forensic specimens following established practices and procedures
  • Clearly explain procedures to patients to ensure comfort and understanding during the collection process
  • Verify and accurately document patient information and specimen details
  • Maintain all required records and documentation in accordance with company standards
  • Promote a positive, professional image to patients, clients, and the public
  • Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and adherence to all operational policies and procedures


Job Requirements

  • Ability to perform accurate, high-quality work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric specimen collection
  • Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision
  • Flexible and available to work weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as required
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite (rideshare, bus, or Uber not considered reliable)
  • Must maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and commitment to completing assigned shifts
  • Candidates must reside within a 20-25-minute commute to ensure consistent attendance and site coverage


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical training (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic) preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in California, Nevada, and Washington)


Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience required; 1 or more years preferred
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred
  • Keyboarding and data entry experience required


Additional Job Details (COVID, Commute, Attendance, etc.)

  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this position
  • This position is not eligible for remote work and requires on-site attendance
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., with rotational Saturday shifts from 6:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
  • Candidates must list home city and commute time on their resume; pay rate is based on years of direct experience (overlapping roles are not counted twice)
  • Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will result in termination
