Position Overview

The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the first point of contact for patients, providing professional, high-quality service during the specimen collection process. This role is responsible for drawing accurate blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring patient comfort through skilled, safe, and compassionate care. The PSR I demonstrates leadership behaviors, process excellence, and a strong commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and patient satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform daily work activities accurately, efficiently, and on time under the supervision of the area supervisor
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional environment for patients and staff
  • Collect and process both clinical and forensic specimens in accordance with established procedures
  • Clearly explain procedures to patients to promote comfort and understanding
  • Verify and document patient information and specimen labeling accurately
  • Maintain required records and documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Promote a positive, professional image to patients, clients, coworkers, and the public
  • Demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and teamwork in support of department operations


Job Requirements

  • Ability to produce high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric specimen collection
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite (rideshare, bus, or Uber not considered reliable)
  • Must maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and full-shift availability
  • Candidates must reside within a 20-25-minute commute to ensure reliable attendance and coverage
  • Bilingual candidates must demonstrate excellent proficiency in both English and Spanish


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical training (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic) preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in California, Nevada, and Washington)


Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience required; one or more years preferred
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred
  • Keyboarding and data entry experience required


Additional Job Details (COVID, Commute, Attendance, etc.)

  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this position
  • This position is not eligible for remote work and requires on-site attendance
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
  • Candidates must list home city and commute time on their resume; pay rate is based on years of direct experience (overlapping roles are not counted twice)
  • Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will result in termination
