The Director of Engineeringprovides engineering leadership at Jefferson Lab by ensuring the application of sound engineering principles to support operations and complex R&D projects aligned with the scientific mission. Coordinate and manage resources for the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) and various DOE O 413 construction projects. Additionally, oversee multi-laboratory partnership projects such as the Electron-Ion Collider Project and LCLS II-HE Project. Collaborate with other laboratory management members in strategic planning, budget and resource management, talent development, policy formulation, and science and technology initiatives.

The Director of Engineeringwill be responsible for:


  • Lead and manage the Engineering Division, providing engineering services to all technical programs at Jefferson Lab. Direct staff and budget to meet laboratory commitments to the CEBAF program and the portfolio of construction projects.

  • Ensure engineering activities support overall project goals and technical performance within cost and schedule requirements.

  • Promote a culture of leadership, accountability, and exceptional safety performance within the Division.

  • Grow and develop a highly skilled engineering workforce and capability.

  • Develop and take ownership of a Systems Engineering framework for Jefferson Lab, in coordination with other Science and Technology organizations within the laboratory.

  • Foster and encourage constructive partnerships with leaders to further the goals and mission of Jefferson Lab.


Qualifications We Prefer:


  • Experience in the DOE National Laboratory Complex or highly regulated industries.

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering
  • Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Experience


  • 15 or more years' experiencerelevant technical areas of large-scale technical systems in a research environment.

  • 5 or more years' experiencein a management position, with broad and in-depth project management and/or project leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Comprehensive leadership and management skills necessary to lead the engineering division and its activities.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, direct, and effectively lead a diverse group of scientific, technical, and administrative staff.
  • Proven ability to exercise executive level leadership for programs, budget, and facilities responsibilities.

  • Relevant experience may not be substituted for education.
