We are seeking a Certifications Manager with deep expertise in design and construction to lead complex sustainability and certification initiatives. This individual will be the technical expert responsible for managing the rigorous documentation and design coordination required to achieve certifications like LEED and Envision on large-scale building and infrastructure projects.

This individual will provide advanced technical guidance, manage project teams, and directly oversee the meticulous documentation processes that are critical to our clients' success. The ability to interpret, coordinate, and review complex project documentation across multiple disciplines is paramount. This role is for a detail-oriented leader who can navigate the technical intricacies of sustainable design and construction from concept to completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead technical expert for project teams pursuing sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, Envision) and independent agency programs (e.g., PANYNJ, NYCGSG).

  • Lead the multidisciplinary design coordination process by guiding architects, engineers, and specification writers to ensure all design and documentation paths meet certification requirements.

  • Fully manage the entire certification submission process, including the preparation, compilation, and quality control of all project documentation. Serve as the primary point of contact.

  • Oversee project scopes, budgets, and schedules for certification efforts, ensuring project delivery is on time and within budget.

  • Provide mentorship and technical training to junior staff on certification requirements, sustainable materials (EPDs/HPDs), and documentation best practices.

  • Contribute to business development by preparing proposal scopes and fees and serving as a subject matter expert in client meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Architecture, Engineering, or Environmental Science. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of 8 years of direct experience in the design and construction industry, with a proven track record of successfully managing and completing LEED and/or Envision certification submissions for large, complex projects.

  • Required certifications: LEED AP and/or Envision.

  • This role is for a proactive, self-motivated leader who thrives on autonomy and problem-solving. The ideal candidate actively identifies challenges and opportunities, proposes effective solutions, and drives projects forward with minimal supervision. A successful person in this role will be a natural collaborator who can mobilize teams and influence stakeholders to achieve ambitious sustainability goals.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and navigate client relationships simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated expertise in leading and managing design coordination, with a strong ability to interpret and review multidisciplinary design documents (drawings, specifications) for compliance.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and a passion for data-driven results.

  • Proficiency in sustainable design principles, including material circularity, EPDs/HPDs, and carbon calculations.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

If you are passionate about sustainability, possess strong leadership skills, and have a track record of driving positive environmental impacts, we invite you to join our team as a Certifications Manager.

In lieu of a cover letter, please provide responses with real-life examples to help us learn more about you:

1. Based on your prior experience, what unique value do you believe you would bring to this role, our team, and the firm?
2. Describe your specific role and responsibilities within the design and construction of a recent project. How did you collaborate with team members, and what solutions did you identify for complex sustainability challenges?
3. Tell me about your ideal career goals within the first 6 months and 1 year of joining the team.
4. Tell me about a technical skill you're most proud of. How have you applied it to solve a significant problem?
5. Describe your approach to mentoring or collaborating with different types of professionals (emerging talent, management, & leaders).
