Job Summary
This position is responsible for identifying customer issues and developing cost effective engineering solutions at large commercial, industrial, and institutional sites. This role provides design expertise for each assigned project including the development and engineering of energy related products and services, typically on the customer side of the meter. Solution focus areas requiring the project manager's expertise are combustion turbines and associated systems, reciprocating diesel and natural gas fired engines (including standby generation and prime power applications), and steam systems including heat recovery steam generators. This position combines engineering and design with project management through the design phase of assigned projects. This position has single point accountability, or can possibly be under the general direction of a Project Director or Senior PM. The Project Manager II (PM-II) position manages or assists with managing the project design phase to ensure all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. This position is typically assigned to multiple "Green I" or "Green II" projects per the Project Management Center of Excellence Project Profile Matrix. The budget of these projects is typically between $5M and $50M with a Low to Moderate level of complexity which may impact the facility or department level for the customer and Duke Energy as well as some Senior Management and/or External Agencies. The PM-II serves as the unifying agent providing leadership, management, direction, coordination, and control of the design phase of the overall project in accordance with the established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of the Company. This position is considered a leadership position; minimum qualifications must be met to be placed within this position.
Responsibilities
Contacting large industrial, commercial, or institutional customers through a business development process to identify the issues and provide commercially available solutions within the customers' budget constraints. Investigation, design, and development of innovative resiliency or energy solutions to resolve customer issues. Solutions may be implemented inside the customer's facility or on the Duke Energy side of the meter. Provide pricing and sales support for these projects. Support construction from a design perspective and develop and implement commissioning plans for assigned projects. Provide technical assistance with resolving operational issues, as necessary. Development and maintenance of equipment specifications that meet the qualifications of standard designs and are acceptable to the construction and maintenance arms of Energy Services.
This position requires an individual that is customer-focused, team oriented, has a background in commercial or industrial design engineering, and is an expert advisor in specific product areas. The Project Manager will be accountable for leading or assisting Energy Services and management in interpreting and evaluating existing and proposed codes, processes, products, standards, regulations, requirements, and guidelines. Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering In addition to desired degree, ten (10) years related work experience including project management or related roles in developing and delivering mechanical system designs to large commercial, industrial, and institutional customers Professional Engineer, Project Management Professional, Certified Energy Manager, and/or Licensed Building, or Public Utility Contractor Five (5) years of commercial and industrial design engineering experience Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team of individuals to meet a common goal and timeline Demonstrated ability to develop skills and become an expert technical advisor for business development team. Topics will include technical and/or business issues. Demonstrated history of continuous improvement in job-related technical, business, and professional knowledge and skills. Areas of focus include safety codes & practices, engineering codes & standards, regulations, company procedures, and market & technical trends. Demonstrated ability to innovate and provide options to customer issues that are complex in nature and for which there are no existing guidelines or known commercial solutions. Working knowledge of available commercial equipment and contractor network Working knowledge of applicable industrial codes Commercial project engineering experience in power generation technologies and specifically combustion turbines and reciprocating engines is essential Commercial mindset that can assess and resolve customer issues with innovative options based on customer cost guidelines and quality standards Customer focused with demonstrated experience developing innovative engineered designs in a collaborative environment Demonstrated ability to assume total project responsibilities including quality assurance, customer interface, internal reporting, and financial evaluation. Demonstrated ability to perform work in compliance with applicable safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Demonstrated ability to speak and write in a clear, concise, and organized manner using correct grammar and ability to document, make recommendations and influence others to common vision and action. Demonstrated ability to represent Duke Energy and effectively communicate technical and business impacts to technical and non-technical individuals within Duke Energy and the customers' organizations.
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable dailycommute to the assigned Duke Energy facility. The preferred work location is Concord, North Carolina. Alternate Duke Energy North Carolina locations will be considered.
