Purpose

To provide technical support in a variety of facilities functions. Responsible for facilities, labs, or shops. Maintain and repair of machinery or equipment. Train other users in proper equipment or machinery handling procedures. Coordinate with central Facilities on building repairs and renovations. Coordinate and supervise furniture and equipment moves, including surplus. Coordinate procurement of materials. May perform inventory control and maintenance of shops.

Responsibilities Department Facility Operations
  • Assist with coordinating telephone service requests for the department.

  • Submit work orders and service requests under the direction of the Senior Facilities Staff.

  • Provide logistical support via ticketing system for facility projects, including scheduling, materials pickup, and basic follow-up.

  • Support the departmental space planning process by maintaining records and preparing information for review by the Senior Facilities Staff.

  • Assist with project documentation, tracking, and communications.

  • Help process proximity card access and key requests by collecting required forms and forwarding for approval.

  • Perform basic lock programming and report issues to the Senior Facilities Staff.

  • Distribute communications to building occupants regarding outages, safety procedures, and emergencies.

  • Maintain and update building contact lists as directed.

Inventory and Surplus Support
  • Assist with tagging assets and maintaining asset records.

  • Help compile data for the annual inventory certification.

  • Collect surplus items from labs/offices and transport to storage or disposal areas.

  • Maintain surplus area in an organized condition.

Lab Supply & Technical Support
  • Assist with procurement requests for laboratory and office supplies and equipment.

  • Organize and restock supply areas.

  • Support assembly, repair, and delivery of lab equipment under the Senior Facilities Staff's supervision.

  • Assist in setting up experiments and equipment for classroom laboratories and students.

  • Help enforce safety protocols by monitoring supply usage and reporting concerns.

Space Management Assistance
  • Gather and verify room occupancy and usage data for annual space certification.

  • Update space records in departmental systems under direction.

  • Help identify and report needed repairs or improvements in teaching labs, research labs, and offices.

Other Duties
  • Provide general facilities support such as posting notices, assisting with event setup, or escorting vendors.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Senior Facilities Staff or department leadership.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.

  • At least one year experience working in a lab or facilities environment.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs without assistance

  • Skilled in the use of hand tools.

  • Basic understanding of electronics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

  • At least two years' experience working in an educational lab setting.

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of electronics and related systems.

Salary Range

$55,000

Working Conditions
  • Lifting and moving 30-50 lbs.

  • May work around chemicals, chemical fumes, and coolants.

Physical Tasks
  • Some lifting and moving of equipment may be required.

  • May work in standard office conditions.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
