Job Summary- The Surgical Clinical Reviewer s chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACS pediatric NSQIP, This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS pediatric NSQIP database of all eligible pediatric surgeries for the hospital, Essential Functions- The SCR will work closely with the members of the Pediatric Perioperative team to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified, Will review charts for Mortality and Morbidity in addition to surgical quality review and refers cases for more intensive review when appropriate, Participate in hospital wide initiatives in support of regulatory and accreditation process, Abstract clinical data for regulatory readiness, Investigate high risk occurrences, develop plan of correction accordingly, Provide 30 day follow up phone calls with pediatric surgical patient's family members, Education- Ability to complete all pre-training, on-site training, and post-training modules and pass the training post test and on-going test required by ACS, RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RN, or BSN preferred but not required, Experience- Minimum one year experience in a hospital surgery department, clinic, clinical research or medical records, Clinical chart review and abstraction experience preferred, Database data entry and/or management experience preferred, Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential, Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers, Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner, Non-Nurses in the SCR position should have a mentor at the hospital that is accessible to help the SCR answer difficult clinical questions, The mentor should be an RN, BSN, MSN, NP, PA, or MD, Basic statistical knowledge preferred, Licenses and Certifications- RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RN, or BSN preferred but not required, At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
