Job Summary

The Loudoun County, Virginia Department of Planning & Zoning is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst to assist with GIS analysis and mapping in a large and expanding multifaceted community that is leading growth in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. There have been numerous land development projects to review and manage in Loudoun County ranging from small neighborhood centers and infill residential development to large-scale data centers and mixed-use communities. The successful candidate will assist with mapping the bounds of entitled development projects as approved by the Board of Supervisors. This will involve research of past approvals, digitization and georectification of development plans, and creation of appropriate attribute tables, shape files and layers that integrate into the County's GIS database.

This position specializes in GIS work to provide spatial analysis, data maintenance, and GIS access the Department requires; functions as a Department Systems Administrator for the GIS; manages mapping and surveying contracts; develops project plans for research; supports County GIS needs through querying, analysis, modeling, and mapping of spatial data; develops mapping solutions; and helps automate and streamline business processes.

Hiring Salary Commensurate with Experience.




Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, or related field; two (2) years of related work experience in GIS services with functional or operational administrative experience in GIS along with database development and spatial modeling and analysis; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

This position requires an analytical thinker who can work independently with direction from a Senior Planner. Skills using Microsoft Office programs and industry-standard planning software is required.

This position requires both criminal and DMV background checks. A valid driver's license is required. After a training period, this position is eligible for telework. Relocation assistance is available to successful candidates that live more than 40 miles away.
