Torch Technologies is seeking a Systems Design Engineer 5 to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Director's digital transformation initiative. This role will drive the modernization of systems engineering processes, tools, and products across the Agency, with a focus on developing and advancing the Government Reference Architecture-a cloud-based framework for collaborative software development, testing, and integration. The mission is to replace outdated workflows with a dynamic digital ecosystem that promotes real-time collaboration, automated documentation, and enhanced agility in MDA's engineering environment.

As a Systems Design Engineer 5 your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the MDA Government Reference Architecture.
  • Modernize systems engineering processes, tools, and products to support agency-wide digital transformation goals.
  • Enable role-based tools and user-specific interfaces for enterprise-wide accessibility.
  • Drive adoption of cloud-based, collaborative platforms for software development and integration.
  • Replace document-heavy workflows with automated, traceable, and dynamic digital solutions.
  • Foster real-time, multi-user collaboration across engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Promote efficiency, agility, and traceability in fast-paced engineering environments.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, technical teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Job Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience with 10 or more years applicable progressively complex systems design engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience with 13 or more years applicable progressively complex systems design engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in STEM field and 12+ years of full-time professional experience.
  • Background with the Missile Defense Agency and/or other large scale DoD systems-of-systems
  • Mastery of digital engineering transformation tools, methodologies, and implementation strategies
  • Advanced software architecture and development expertise with coding proficiency
  • Expert-level systems modeling and MBSE toolset implementation and training capabilities
  • Program-level management experience
  • Formal training in INCOSE or equivalent Systems Engineering standards and practices
  • Advanced analytical expertise with ability to lead complex technical documentation reviews and assessments
  • Proven leadership in establishing, mentoring, and driving systems engineering best practices across organizations
  • Expert-level ability to architect and implement Reference Architecture integration strategies in complex SoS environments
  • Comprehensive mastery of requirements engineering, traceability frameworks, and full lifecycle management methodologies
  • Executive-level communication skills with ability to present complex technical concepts to senior leadership
