This position provides the communications backbone for the day-to-day management of O&E's programs. It is integral in raising campus-wide awareness of community engagement, increasing visibility of partners through strategic engagement with stakeholders, fostering understanding of Outreach and Engagement programs and initiatives, and executing complex projects like a website redesign.
The Temporary Communications Specialist (CS) is a key member of the Outreach and Engagement small team, reporting directly to the Project Manager. The Communications Specialist is a dynamic, collaborative, intuitive, and word-savvy communications professional whose training, knowledge, insights, and skills are current with the field of institutional/organizational communications in the digital age. The Communications Specialist helps to imagine and execute a communications program that aligns with goals outlined in the University's strategic plan.
The Communications Specialist's primary responsibilities will be to assist with a wide range of communications projects, manage website content/updates, assist with the Office's email marketing and correspondence, data entry, and manage Outreach and Engagement's digital engagement. This will include content generation, design, routine stakeholder engagement, and analytics tracking.
The Communications Specialist may assist in drafting and editing press releases, speeches, presentations, publications, grant proposals, reports, and other collateral material with minimal supervision and often under tight deadlines. The Communications Specialist should have some knowledge of basic graphic design. Videography and/or photography skills would be an added bonus. |

Primary Responsibilities
Website and Digital Media (40%)
- Serve as the Digital Accessibility Lead for O&E.
- Play a leading role in the implementation of a new WordPress theme and content reorganization.
- Develop written and multimedia content (.gifs, graphic design/updates, creation of special events pages, form creation/changes, etc).
- Administer the WordPress content management system.
- Provide day-to-day management of digital channels (website, newsletter, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc).
- Engage with scholars, academic societies, nonprofits, and others on social media.
Project Management (20%)
- Work collaboratively with team members to manage projects to meet shared goals and objectives.
- Schedule, create, and disseminate a scheduled stream of web updates, social media engagement, email marketing campaigns, etc.
- Supervise the orientation, training, and day-to-day tasks of new and existing student employees/interns.
- Respond promptly to emails from colleagues and external partners.
- Manage projects collaboratively using team project management software.
- Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Outreach and Engagement digital presence, including social media, escalating issues to the appropriate level of support and/or leadership when necessary.
Writing (20%)
- Write and edit executive-level documents, including grant applications, best practices documents, award ceremony remarks for University leaders, committee reports, and others as needed.
- Draft, edit, and disseminate news releases, briefings, reports, presentations, and other public written materials, as needed.
- Edit and publish a monthly e-newsletter.
- Submit announcements to the Provost's monthly newsletter.
Knowledge Management (10%)
- Enter and maintain data in the Collaboratory engagement-tracking database.
- Develop the Collaboratory software as a story development tool for O&E and University Communications.
- Ensure that engagement stories are reflected in Collaboratory.
- Develop a communication plan to share Collaboratory data with leaders and partners.
- Ensure Collaboratory activities are integrated with oe.ncsu.edu.
- Source stories for news posts, social media posts, and e-newsletters.
- Drive Collaboratory feature enhancement with suggestions to the product team.
Brand Development (10%)
- Strengthen and grow O&E's audience engagement and reach across all social media platforms through strategic planning and comprehensive multimedia campaigns.
- Work with external vendors such as designers and videographers.
- Track digital communication analytics to inform communication strategy.

Minimum Experience/Education |
Bachelor's degree or four years of relevant experience. |
