Mechanical Technician 2

STS Technical Services is hiring Mechanical Technicians in Warren, Michigan. This role supports engineering teams by modifying, testing, and repairing machinery and equipment, as well as assisting in the design, testing, and manufacturing of industrial machinery, consumer products, and other equipment.

As a Mechanical Technician, you will champion safe test setups for battery assemblies and components, ensure accurate and timely test results, and perform essential hands-on duties involving large, high-voltage batteries. This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and commitment to safety in a fast-paced engineering environment.

• Champion safe test setup for battery assemblies and related components, including defining and performing procedures and checks to deliver on-time, quality test results
  
• Develop and manufacture special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures related to battery assembly testing
  
• Perform physical duties involving movement, shipping, and disposal of large and heavy high-voltage batteries
  
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including data collection and analysis
  
• Maintain awareness of Business Plan Deployment goals, identifying and suggesting improvement opportunities
  
• Develop, implement, and sustain workplace organisation practices
  
• Communicate findings to engineering personnel verbally and in writing
  
• Recommend revisions to product or component design as required
  
• Conduct or assist with Safety and Abuse testing as needed
  
• Conduct or assist with detailed teardown and analysis of battery cells, modules, and packs
  
• Conduct or assist with vibration testing, including work above 6 feet and use of cranes and rigging to move high-voltage components
  
• Complete all required UAW GM training courses, including respirator, cranes/hoist, and lockout procedures
  

• Relevant technical training or equivalent mechanical technician experience
  
• Hands-on experience with machinery, testing, or repair in an engineering or laboratory environment preferred
  
• Familiarity with battery systems, high-voltage equipment, or related testing processes a plus
  
• Strong problem-solving, organisation, and documentation skills
  
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding work involving heavy components and elevated work conditions
