The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Department Administrator Confidential for the School of Arts and Sciences - Dean's Office. The Department Administrator Confidential reports to the Director of the School of Arts and Sciences and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides confidential, executive-level administrative and analytical support to the Office of the Executive Dean ("OED") across various areas, including special projects, correspondence, proactive calendar management, and problem-solving for the daily and long-term operations of the office.
- Oversees and performs a wide range of administrative and support activities for the Office of the Executive Dean and the Executive Dean's leadership team.
- Plays a key role in managing effective and efficient office operations, exercising independent judgment in handling day-to-day matters.
- Serves as the main administrative contact for both internal and external stakeholders, often addressing complex and sensitive issues.
- Manages the calendars of the Executive Dean and the Director prioritizing meetings and issues to optimize the Dean's and Director's time.
- Serves as a backup for the various Vice Dean Offices and Divisional Dean Offices.
- Demonstrates professionalism and discretion in carrying out their duties.
- Engages with various constituencies professionally and discreetly. They must have a solid understanding of university policies and procedures, as well as knowledge of different offices across the New Brunswick campus, ensuring that the needs of stakeholders-including central office administrators, faculty, students, staff, alumni, prospective students and parents, and donors-are met in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Prepares and distributes documents, including cost-related analyses, requested by the Office of University Labor Relations, and the Office of General Counsel in support of the university's labor negotiations efforts and in support of labor relations functions related to the administration of collective negotiations agreements.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of executive management and administrative principles and practices.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a complex administrative setting, providing support to executive-level management.

- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is also encouraged.
