Job Description: The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (Process Improvement Engineer I) supports the adoption of lean methodologies to drive efficiency and innovation across NextGen's Engineering organization. Leveraging Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt tools, this role contributes to data analysis, process mapping, and solution implementation to eliminate waste, streamline operations, and enhance product delivery. As a key member of the process improvement team, this role partners with cross-functional stakeholders to enable operational excellence and better healthcare outcomes.
- Partner with product, engineering, implementation, and executive teams to identify and execute improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate kaizen events, value stream mapping sessions, and process improvement workshops across diverse teams.
- Build relationships at all organizational levels, from individual contributors to C-suite executives.
- Serve as a lean thinking evangelist, teaching and mentoring teams in lean principles and practices.
- Analyze current workflows and processes to identify waste, inefficiencies, and opportunities for breakthrough improvements.
- Design and implement lean solutions that accelerate product development cycles and improve quality.
- Transform operational improvements into new product capabilities that enhance user experience.
- Create standardized work processes that scale across our growing organization.
- Support Black Belt leadership in enterprise-wide transformation initiatives.
- Develop metrics and dashboards to track improvement impact on both operational efficiency and product outcomes.
- Connect process improvements directly to customer value and business results.
- Contribute to the development of NextGen's continuous improvement culture and methodology.
- Lead small to medium-sized improvement projects independently.
- Support larger transformation initiatives as a key team member.
- Document and share best practices to ensure sustainable change.
- Use data-driven approaches to validate improvements and demonstrate ROI.
- Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Business Administration, Business, Engineering or Computer Science).
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
- 3-5 years of experience applying lean principles in a software or technology environment.
- Proven track record of driving process improvements that delivered measurable business impact.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise software companies.
- Healthcare or health IT industry experience.
- Background in software development, product management, or technical operations.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, or modern software delivery practices.
License/Certification Required:
- Green Belt certification or progression toward it.
- Active Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification from a recognized body such as:
- American Society for Quality (ASQ)
- International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC)
- Council for Six Sigma Certification (CSSC)
- Or equivalent reputable certification organization
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of:Knowledge of additional improvement methodologies (Agile, Design Thinking, Theory of Constraints). Lean principles, tools, and methodologies such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Waste Elimination, and PDCA, Data analysis techniques and visualization tools used to support process improvement initiatives, software development lifecycle and agile methodologies and organizational change management principles and continuous improvement frameworks
- Skill in:Analyzing and interpreting complex data sets to identify improvement opportunities, translating lean manufacturing concepts into software development and service delivery contexts, communicating effectively across technical and non-technical teams, facilitating meetings, workshops, and presentations with cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leadership and coaching and educating others on lean principles in a clear and engaging manner
- Ability to:Influence others without formal authority to drive process changes, build trust and alignment across diverse teams and roles, maintain a patient and persistent approach to cultural transformation and change adoption, balance strategic thinking with attention to critical operational details, and act as a proactive change agent within a fast-paced, evolving organization
