Overview The Steam Operations communications specialist position offers a unique opportunity to help shape how the Company engages with its Steam employees, customers, and stakeholders during a pivotal time in our transition to a clean energy future. This dynamic role has three primary areas of focus: Event Management, Internal Communications, and External Communications (these are described in more detail below). It requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and a collaborative mindset.Primary Areas of Focus:1. Event ManagementThe communications specialist is the point person for planning, scheduling, and tracking events including monthly Log On & Learn webinars, quarterly Hands-On Steam training seminars, biannual Building on Steam conferences, and East River Station tours (as requested). Success in this area requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal communication.2. Internal CommunicationsThe communications specialist assists in the development and implementation of messaging campaigns for Steam employees on topics such as safety, new hires, new customers/customer updates, and departmental events. These communications are delivered via a variety of channels including email, digital screens, presentations, and Intranet content. The specialist also helps other departments within Steam Operations to develop meeting content and materials, and to create/improve PowerPoint presentations.3. External CommunicationsThe communications specialist assists in the development of email campaigns, business letters, presentations, website content, webinars and other materials for Steam's nearly 1,500 customers and key external stakeholders. The specialist also helps to ensure that this messaging is clear, professional, and aligned with Con Edison's brand and service standards.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and track Steam Ops Communications events.
- Oversee these events from start to finish, including leading planning meetings, developing presentation materials and talking points, drafting internal emails and intranet articles, liaising with the Steam Ops team and coordinating with other internal or external team members on projects and events, as needed. This is a significant responsibility, as Steam Communications is responsible for several recurring events, including expanded staff meetings, Hands-On Steam training seminars, the annual spring and fall Building on Steam conferences, monthly Log On & Learn webinars, trade shows, etc.
- Assist the organization in meeting established goals and key performance indicators.
- Work with the communications manager, the Steam Business Development Team and other departments within Steam Ops to develop and distribute messaging for Steam employees on a variety of topics.

- Serve as the primary point of contact with the Con Edison web team to ensure that conEd.com/Steam is kept current and assist with enhancements as necessary.
- Apply project management skills to track deadlines and deliverables to ensure timely delivery.
- Develop and deliver well-organized presentations.
- Continually measure the effectiveness of communications channels and activities and seek ways to improve and innovate.
- Maintain the Steam Ops Communications rotating calendar. Ensure that all tasks listed are completed in a timely manner.
- Be available for emergency duties as per the pre-established rotating schedule.
- Coordinate internal steam nominations for corporate teams and employee recognition programs.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field and 2 years of applicable experience, or
- Associate's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field and 4 years of applicable experience, or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of applicable experience.

- Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field and 2 years of applicable experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Experience developing communications for internal and/or external audiences (i.e., employees and/or customers) in a professional setting, required.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and an eye for visual clarity. While not required to be a graphic designer, the ideal candidate should be able to structure and present information in a way that is clean, clear, concise, and visually engaging, required.
- Must be extremely well-organized, and have the ability to juggle multiple projects, plan and manage deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team, required.
- Strong oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal/collaboration skills, required.
- Excellent customer service skills and a proven track record of working with internal and external customers, required.
- Innovative, creative, curious mindset, willing to learn and champion new media and channels, required.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), required.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, In Design, etc.), preferred.
