Job Description: Factory Goods Import Specialist Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Factory Goods Import Specialist to manage the importation of goods from global suppliers, including China, Europe, and India, into the United States. This role will ensure full compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, manage HS code classification, coordinate with freight forwarders and brokers for optimal logistics, and establish bonded warehouse procedures to reduce duty costs. The ideal candidate will also manage duty drawback processes in partnership with forwarders to maximize savings.

Key Responsibilities
  • * Coordinate end-to-end import processes, including document preparation, shipment tracking, and customs clearance.
  • * Classify imported goods using appropriate HTS/HS codes in compliance with U.S. Customs regulations.
  • * Manage communication and coordination with U.S. Customs, brokers, and freight forwarders.
  • * Negotiate and optimize shipping and brokerage rates with third-party logistics providers.
  • * Set up and manage a bonded warehouse on-site with proper inventory and duty tracking procedures.
  • * Develop and maintain handbook/SOPs for bonded warehouse operations and customs compliance.
  • * Ensure duties are only paid on components used in units sold in the U.S.; defer duties for export-bound goods.
  • * Manage duty drawback programs with forwarders to recover duties on exported goods.
  • * Maintain accurate records for CBP audits and ensure compliance with all import/export regulations.
  • * Stay current with changes in international trade laws and U.S. import/export regulations.
Qualifications
  • * Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • * 5+ years of experience in international logistics, customs compliance, or import operations.
  • * Proven expertise in HTS/HS code classification and U.S. Customs procedures.
  • * Experience setting up and operating bonded warehouses and managing duty tracking.
  • * Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Infor LN, SAP, Oracle).
    • * Strong negotiation and communication skills for managing external vendors and brokers.
    • * Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
    • * U.S. Customs Broker License is a plus.
  • Preferred Skills
    • * Experience with Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) or Free Trade Agreements (FTA).
    • * Understanding of tariff engineering and international trade cost-saving strategies.
    • * Ability to manage audit processes with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
