Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Production and Events Manager, with additional guidance provided by the Business Officer and the Chair, the Marketing and Communications Manager is primarily responsible for the creative and progressive marketing, social media presence, communications, public relations, and major initiatives for the Department of Music. Is also responsible for adhering to an annual publicity budget, the design and maintenance of the department's website, and negotiating contracts and royalties for licensed materials used for publicity purposes. The department produces approximately 150 events each academic year, including large and small audience lectures, concerts, recitals, and masterclasses. Required Qualifications:

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement: 40% Marketing, Publicity and Public Relations MARKETING In consultation with the Chair, Business Officer, Production & Event Manager, and departmental faculty members is responsible for the development of creative, progressive, and cost-effective marketing strategies to refine and broaden the local and national profile of the department's public events and academic mission. Envisions and implements methods of presenting to the campus and community a highly visible and favorable image of the Department of Music. Responsible for the creation, distribution, execution measurement of written marketing plans. Sets goals for marketing and ticket sales and devises strategies for achieving them. Prepares regular reports on the effectiveness of these marketing plans. Establishes advertising schedules and administers placement of print, digital, online, television and radio advertising. PUBLICITY Handles publicity for 200 departmental events each academic year using digital and print media. Establishes and maintains a presence with social media. Using departmental website, promotes student recitals, academic lectures, and performance events. Uses the departmental website to showcase all departmental events, programming, and achievements. Designs, using in-house desk-top publishing, brochures, posters, newspaper/magazine ads for concerts, lecturers, recitals and special events. Supervises projects through all stages of printing. Writes copy for press releases, brochures, posters and newspapers/magazine/radio ads for concerts, lectures, and special events. PUBLIC RELATIONS Responsible for the planning, approval, and execution of public relations strategies. Identifies target populations for potential growth of audiences. Initiates and cultivates contacts with UCSB students, faculty, staff, and community groups and works with them to identify opportunities to reach target groups. Uses social media to increase and improve communications with our alumni and our community. In collaboration with the Production & Events Manager, initiates and plans community relations events. 40% Web Design and Online Presence In consultation with academic administration, envisions, develops, designs, and maintains the overall image, marketing, and public/community relations aspects of the departmental website. Serves as departmental webmaster, using Drupal to manage content. Establishes and maintains an online presence through social media and other forms of progressive marketing. Coordinates with other communications staff on campus, both in the College and Public Affairs. Serves as an active participant for division-wide and campus-wide collaborative online marketing initiatives. 10% Financial Management Responsible for the establishment and administrative oversight of the publicity budget for the Department of Music. Works closely with the Business Officer, Financial Assistant, and Productions & Events Manager to track, analyze, and project publicity costs for the academic year. Works closely with the Financial Assistant to review and approve publicity expenses. Secures print licenses for departmental publicity. 10% Miscellaneous Duties Assists Chair with special projects and fundraising campaigns. Attends Events Review Committee meetings to provide input for the production calendar as pertaining to marketing requirements. Manages electronic departmental events archive, including departmental brochures, calendars, press coverage, production photos. Responsible for all photographic needs. Sets up photo sessions, selects proofs. Maintains up-to-date photos on all performing groups as well as individual faculty members. Answers inquiries regarding access or use of archival information from media outlets, alumni, and faculty members.
