Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant for the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience within the School of Arts and Sciences. Our mission is to unravel the complexities of blood-brain barrier ( BBB) regulation across the spectrum of development, normal physiology, and disease states. As a dynamic and innovative new research group, we leverage an array of sophisticated methodologies, such as functional tracer leakage assays, live confocal microscopy of the entire brain, novel molecular and genetic tool development, electron microscopy, and targeted small-molecule screens. We are currently spearheading several exciting projects:

  • Investigating the crucial functions of astrocytes in sustaining BBB integrity during health and in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Examining the influence of neural crest lineage on BBB characteristics and questioning whether cellular origins dictate their roles in BBB function.
  • Searching for groundbreaking small molecules with the potential to modulate BBB permeability.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Assists with experiments by performing molecular biology, microinjections, microscopy imaging, in sity hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and data analysis.
  • Maintains fish colony by crossing and genotyping transgenic and mutant lines.
  • Orders supplies, stock solution, and overall lab upkeep.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $36,500 - $38,000
