About this opportunity:

Position Function:

At Ball State University our Substitute Bus Drivers will operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.

Work hours and days are as assigned per bus requests. There is no set schedule or shift. Number of hours per week varies; could be 0 hours to 40+ hours a week depending on demands.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
2. Must demonstrate ability to drive bus (on-site driving test).
3. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with an endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
4. Must possess a good driving record; verification through Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
5. Must pass a post offer/pre-employment mandatory drug and alcohol test.
6. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Preferred Qualifications:

Over-the-road (OTR) bus or truck driving experience.

Job Duties:

1. Operate passenger buses, shuttles, vans and paratransit units on various routes as established by the Transportation Office.

2. Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.

3. Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage.

4. Maintain contact with Transportation Office when necessary via radio and/or telephone; inform office of changes in location, delays, traffic problems, emergencies, etc.

5. Maintain accurate records of mileage and number of passengers; complete various trip sheets and logs for each assigned task.

6. Assist and direct disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed.

7. Report any problems with routes and make recommendations for changes when appropriate.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
