The Department of Sustainable Delivery (DSD) is a new division within the NYC Department of Transportation, launched in 2025 to respond to the rapid growth of app-based delivery and the widespread use of electric micromobility devices on city streets. As these vehicles become more common for both personal and commercial use, DSD is responsible for ensuring they are used safely, legally, and in ways that support the City's broader transportation and climate goals. DSD employs a multifaceted approach combining data analytics, policy, enforcement, education, and industry oversight to reduce crashes and conflicts on city streets. Its mission is to bring structure, clarity, and safety to the city's evolving micromobility landscape, ensuring these vehicles are integrated responsibly into the urban environment.

DOT is seeking a strategic and solutions-oriented Chief of Staff to serve as a key advisor to the Deputy Commissioner and support the operational and strategic development of the division during its critical early phase and ongoing expansion. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of public policy, emerging technologies, and street safety contributing to first-of-its-kind initiatives in one of the most dynamic policy areas in New York City.

Under the direction and supervision of the Deputy Commissioner for DSD, the Chief of Staff will: support the Deputy Commissioner in managing day-to-day operations of the division, including priority-setting, follow-ups, and internal coordination; provide oversight and coordination of administrative support staff; help manage and coordinate interagency relationships and external stakeholder engagements; draft internal memos, briefing materials, and presentations to support strategic decision-making and high-level communications; oversee meeting preparation and follow-up for the Deputy Commissioner, including agenda development, logistics, and action tracking; support the buildout of new division functions, including staffing, organizational operating procedures, and cross-team collaboration; support hiring managers in new staff recruitment, selection, processing, and onboarding, along with staff advancement, among other duties.
