Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Washington State Labor and Industries Certified Administrator, the Workers' Compensation Claim Administrator Trainee is responsible for the administration of workers' compensation claims for employees of facilities participating in MultiCare Health System's self-insurance workers' compensation program. This position is involved in the interpretation of complex state rules and regulations, in managing the processes associated with the administration of workers' compensation claims, and in the coordination of medical care provided to injured employees. This position functions within general program policies and procedures. Work situations require data analysis, discretion, good judgment, and decision making within the scope of the position's responsibilities. Major decisions are subject to the review and approval of the manager. Internal contacts include staff and management throughout MHS. This position has frequent phone and written contact with physicians, attorneys, investigators, state regulators, and other external participants in the workers' compensation process.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews and processes initial reports of work-related injuries and incidents
  • Contacts injured employees to confirm/investigate incidents, coordinate medical care processes, and evaluate work status
  • Initiates state mandated reporting processes and create workers' compensation claim files and documentation
  • Initiates, calculates, and issues payments/checks for lost wages
  • Initiates and coordinates modified duty/return-to-work processes
  • Coordinates/communicates with employee, employee's supervisor, physicians, and other participants supporting the injury management process
  • Monitors employee/claim status and files necessary state forms, supporting claim administration processes through to claim closure
  • With guidance from the Manager or Certified Administrator, initiates and coordinates the appropriate utilization of attorneys, investigators, vocational rehab counselors, and other external vendors/resources to support claim administration processes
  • Reviews and approves bills for payments for medical care provided to injured employees
  • Tracks and processes third party recoveries, COLA adjustments, 2nd Injury fund reimbursements, ergonomic payment recovery, and other state funding opportunities that reduce overall program cost

Qualifications

  • Associates degree: or, equivalent related experience, or combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in coordination of medical care and return to work process, preferred
  • Experience working directly with employees in a healthcare setting, preferred
  • Must complete 72-hour WSIA curriculum within 2 years.
  • Must successfully pass the Labor and Industries Certified Administrator test and become a WA State Certified Claims Administrator within 2 years

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $28.13 - $40.49 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
