As a Laser Operator 2 at Ryerson, you are responsible for operating Laser cutting machines safely and efficiently. You will select proper material type, size, and thickness while maintaining the highest materail usage yield.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute laser schedule (flat or tube)
  • Operate Lasers
  • Modify programs, parameters, and nesting to optimize machine path is safe
  • Collaborate with manager and/or Lead for scheduled machine maintenance and down time
  • Perform Quality Assurance checks of own work and coworkers
  • Ensure all customer specifications are held within the Laser Department
  • All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

  • Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred
  • Knowldge of material type, thickness, grade and machine flow
  • Capable of modifying on the fly laser parameters and nesting programs to maintain production
  • Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer
  • Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
  • Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training


Salary: $20-28 hourly. A starting salary higher than $20 hourly is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
