Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center

The Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center (MITC) is a university-wide resource for developing radiopharmaceutical-based diagnostic imaging and therapeutic agents. MITC is a hub of shared resources for in vivo imaging in small animal models. MITC supports the needs of investigators at MU, the UM System, and beyond who wish to incorporate state-of-the-art in vivo imaging to advance their research.

Job Description

The Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center (MITC) seeks a highly motivated Senior Research Specialist to join our team. This position offers a unique blend of hands-on research and managerial responsibilities, providing an excellent opportunity for professional growth. You will contribute to cutting-edge research in molecular imaging and therapeutics, helping advance the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals for early cancer detection and treatment.

Key duties:

In this role, you will report to and collaborate with Dr. David Bauer, engaging in both bench-top research and managerial duties. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Project & Lab Management

  • Connecting with vendors and suppliers, requesting quotes, and purchasing laboratory equipment
  • Maintaining equipment, scheduling service, and managing service contracts
  • Maintaining a safe, organized, and functional lab space
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and study planning

Research and Lab work

  • Supporting the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and therapy
  • Conducting in vivo biodistribution, imaging, and therapy studies
  • Performing mouse handling techniques, including wellness checks, cage changes, tumor inoculations, and tail vein injections
  • Performing cell culture work, including thawing, freezing, seeding, expansion, and counting
  • Ordering and managing inventory of animals, cells, laboratory supplies, and chemicals

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety and Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare regulations
  • Maintaining accurate records for regulatory and compliance purposes
  • Assisting with ACUC protocol writing

Additional Expectations

  • Mentoring and training students
  • Supervising employees and contributing to team development
  • Expanding your research interests and proposing new ideas

Must be available for reliable and consistent onsite work.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with animal handling and care.
Willingness to work with radioactive materials.
Strong interest in cancer research and molecular imaging.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $77,042.00 per year

Grade: GGS-9E
