Applies pedagogical knowledge in a real-world classroom setting, helping plan, deliver, and assess lessons to support student learning and development under the guidance of a certified mentor teacher.

The Student Teacher is supervised jointly by a cooperating (mentor) teacher and a university field supervisor. Regular evaluations and observations will be conducted throughout the placement. Looking for Student Teachers for Spring 2026 $5000 Stipend included! Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the mentor teacher to plan and implement daily lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Instructs students in whole-class, small-group, and individual settings.
  • Uses various instructional strategies and technologies to support diverse learners.
  • Assesses student progress through formal and informal assessments.
  • Reflects on teaching practices and participate in regular feedback sessions with the mentor teacher and university supervisor.
  • Manages classroom behavior effectively and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Participates in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events when appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality and follow school policies and ethical standards in education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to student success.
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback and apply it to improve teaching practice.
Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a teacher education program required.
  • Completion of relevant coursework in pedagogy, child development, and curriculum design required.
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
