To strengthen our team in San Diego,
we are looking for you as a(n) Process Development Scientist I.

Process Development Scientist I will mainly execute bench scale analytical assays and perform upstream and downstream manufacturing processes on plasmid DNA (pDNA), mRNA, and protein. The PD Scientist I will support other scientists within the Process Development group as necessary to execute small-scale studies, as well as any optimization, troubleshooting, analytical development, or technology transfer efforts.

Essential functions of this position:



  • Assist and participate (with supervision) on upstream, downstream, and analytical processing of plasmid, mRNA, and protein manufacturing processes. Support other team members as needed in buffer/ media preparation and analytics.
  • Follow and rely on protocols and work instructions to safely perform routine lab work and other functions of the job.
  • Accurately record, analyze, and report technical data, and communicate results to more senior staff.
  • Operate and maintain general lab equipment such as glass washers, autoclaves, scales, stir plates, mixers, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis equipment and pH and conductivity meters
  • Perform lab administrative tasks such as materials ordering, vendor scheduling, safety data sheets management, etc.



Position Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • 1 year of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or a comparable academic institution, performing in a process development, R&D, or manufacturing role
  • Ability to understand and execute analytical procedures.
  • Ability to document work in electronic laboratory notebooks, presentations, and written reports.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory techniques such as spectrometry, pH, conductivity, gel electrophoresis, etc.
  • Complies with all Wacker safety policies such as using appropriate PPE, reading JSA's, etc.
  • Experience with typical analytical equipment such as HPLC, UV/Vis, CE, Plate Reader, PCR, Osmometer, balance, conductivity meter, pH meter and Gel Imager is desired.
  • Knowledgeable using Microsoft Office as well as developing any documentation and creating tables for laboratory inventory and data entry.



The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $68,000-$77,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Wacker is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
