Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA is seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Dosimetrist to join our dynamic team of medical physicists and dosimetrists. Our department is committed to delivering exceptional patient care through the use of state-of-the-art radiation therapy techniques and technologies.

We utilize a broad range of advanced treatment systems, including Varian TrueBeam, TrueBeam STx, Novalis Tx, Varian Ethos, and ViewRay MRIdian, and maintain an active interstitial HDR brachytherapy program.

Role & Responsibilities

As a member of the Medical Physics Division, the dosimetrist will:

  • Perform treatment planning for SBRT, IMRT, 3D conformal therapy, total body irradiation, and HDR brachytherapy.
  • Collaborate closely with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and radiation therapists to support simulation, treatment delivery, and quality assurance.
  • Participate in departmental quality initiatives and process improvement efforts.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in IMRT, SBRT, and 3D conformal radiotherapy planning.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
Will hire at Dosimetrist or Senior Dosimetrist level based on experience and certifications/eligibility.

Salary for Senior Dosimetrist: $80.92 - $106.76 hourly

Salary for Dosemtrist: $77.39 - $92.51 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Certification by the American Board of Medical Dosimetry or eligibility to sit for exam required for Dosimetrist
  • Bachelors degree or higher
  • 3 years of full-time dosimetry experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in the operation of radiotherapy equipment, including linear accelerators, cobalt teletherapy units, simulators, dosimetric equipment, brachytherapy equipment, computerized treatment planning systems, and record and verification/patient information management systems.
  • Proficient in external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning.
  • Ability to perform and analyze in-vivo and in-phantom measurements.
  • Knowledgeable of current radiotherapy treatment techniques.
  • Skill in providing treatment planning and dose-calculation services for patient treatment and diagnosis with external, interstitial, intracavitary, and distributed internal sources.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within the context of radiotherapy.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, to exercise diplomacy in dealing with others, to secure cooperation from colleagues, and to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to maintain work pace appropriate for the workload.
  • Ability to think and work independently but willing to accept quality control verification of work.
  • Knowledge of required response to internal and external disaster procedures as well as fire and life safety.
  • Skill in mathematics including algebra and trigonometry.
