Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Job Description Summary:


This position serves as assisting in the investigation and resolution of employee concerns, providing support to HR Business Partners and HR Director on employee relations matters, and ensuring consistent application of company policies. This includes tasks like conducting investigations, providing guidance on disciplinary actions, and participating in the development of employee relations programs. This person will work 75% in partnership with HR Partner(s) assisting with all ER/Investigations tasks, and 25% Administration and New Employee Orientation assistance.



Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Under the direction of the Director of HR, serves as HR lead on employee relations issues, e.g., incident investigations, performance management and improvement plans, and terminations.


    • Provide advice and counsel to managers, supervisors and employees regarding laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practices related to employee relations matters, working collaboratively with HR Partners to ensure consistent application, interpretation and application in employee relations matters.
    • Foster effective relationships with directors/managers and their staff; ensure effective utilization of employee relations tools and positive employee relations.
    • Facilitate resolution of employee issues and concerns by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem-solving, dispute resolution, compliance, and litigation avoidance.
    • Resolve internal conflicts informally through appropriate conflict management and mediation techniques.
    • Establish and nurture a positive and supportive Human Resources presence within the function(s) and among staff at all levels.
    • Develop and maintain a position of trusted advisor to the ELT. Advise the ELT on engagement, retention, learning and employee relations issues as they arise, and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
    • Collaborate with managers on the development and review supporting documentation for all involuntary separations.
    • Conduct thorough investigations in conjunction with other HR team staff.
    • Consult with external legal counsel as needed.
    • Prepare written reports of investigation outcomes as well as organizing all supporting documentation.
    • Identify potential compliance, ethics or other issues and propose solutions based on investigation findings; advise management of potential problems and recommend/implement solutions as directed.
    • Must have effective communication skills which are required for relationship building (Interpersonal Skills). Strong people skills as well as technical skills.
    • Empathic, patient, and supportive.
    • Conduct exit interviews and analyze exit interview questionnaires for trends.


  • Serve as HR lead regarding leaves of absence (LOAs) and assist with workers' compensation (WC) matters.


    • Provide materials for staff, track LOAs and WC injuries and illness, and provide relevant reports.
    • Act as liaison with staff to facilitate understanding of LOA and WC process.


  • Develop and present employee relations, diversity, LOA, and management best practices and other HR training as needed.
  • Along with other HR team members, as a back-up with weekly new employee orientation on a rotating basis for ER Presentations.
  • Follow and administer policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the organization is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage and maintain HR files required for job functions, contracts, funders, and other regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate information on behalf of the HR Team through multiple channels such as email, memos, etc.
  • Prepare and/or update periodic reports of HR-related activities.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations and requirements regarding benefits, HR, wage and hours, and employment issues.
  • Assist and advise all employees in agency HR policies, procedures, and practices for consistency, fairness, and compliance with local, state, funder, and federal regulations and requirements.



Job Description Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years' HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years' experience in employee relations role for medium-sized organization and/or in organization with multiple locations
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of equal employment opportunities, harassment and discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, and other related state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated client service orientation.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing effectively with guide, problem-solve, and present facts and recommendations to all levels of employees.
  • Able to collect, compile and analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions and translating observations and results in clear, concise reports.
  • Able to be precise, thorough, and detail oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to learn and work proficiently in several HRIS databases.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in Word and Excel



Job Description Preferred Qualifications:



  • PHR or CA-PHR certification
  • Knowledge of or experience working with those living with mental illness and/or substance addictions
  • Minimum 30 WPM typing speed.
  • Bilingual Spanish
