Overview

Department 373 - Fast Attack Boat Main Machinery SSTG Engineer - Responsible for the design, manufacture, test, and delivery of the ship service turbine generators (SSTGs) for VIRGINIA Class submarine.

Engineers will be responsible for the project management and oversight of design, development, procurement, ship integration, test, and repair efforts of the SSTGs. Engineers will have the opportunity to develop a knowledge base in a wide variety of associated submarine systems, components, and structures in a fast-paced environment of changing issues.

The selected individuals will be required to interface with EB management, Equipment Vendors, Customers (Naval Sea Systems Command), Shipyard Personnel, and Ship's Force. The individual must have a strong proficiency in all facets of engineering principles associated with rotating machinery and controls. The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures and have strong technical writing and communication skills.

Primary focus will be working on electrical components and control systems. However, this position will have some mechanical responsibilities that will be learned on the job from mechanical peers.

Travel to vendor facilities and Newport News Shipbuilding yard for witnessing testing and issue resolutions are regularly anticipated as well as shift work with occasional night shift coverage.



Qualifications

Required:

    Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of engineering experience with control systems and/or robotics and/or power systems
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in submare design and/orconstruction
