The Production Supervisor's core responsibilities are to support the Liner Mill operating areas with focus on the following core categories:

    • Work to keep key indicators in the Liner Mill at within operating excellence parameters

    Our Team

    Georgia-Pacific's Big Island, VA containerboard mill is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the James River and produces the paper used to make boxes. Half of the production is made from 100% recycle fiber and the other half uses about 25% recycle fiber. The mill employs about 330 people.

    What You Will Do

    • Provide leadership in areas of crew safety, training, adherence to policies, and use of standard operating procedures. Includes periodic inspections of paper machines and area equipment.
    • Continually assess the performance, knowledge, and skills of employees. Recommend and initiate solutions for improvement.
    • Coordinate department production activities, using discretion and decision-making skills, in accordance with department plans. Work with operators to optimize machine productivity and uptime.
    • Assist with maintenance and shutdown activities, to complete shutdowns and maintenance work safely and efficiently.
    • Establish and manage priorities on completing necessary maintenance work to support uptime and reliability goals.
    • Strong analytical, trouble shooting and decision-making skills. Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize, maintain attention to detail and recognize time constraints as related to production optimization.
    • Direct supervision of bargaining unit employees in the liner mill departments. This includes, but is not limited to, initiating and administering both positive and negative performance feedback. Understand and follow the Bargaining Agreement as it relates to personnel coordination.
    • Perform as a team leader that will continuously pursue strategies to improve safety performance while efficiently producing a quality product.

    Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

      • 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
      • Must be willing to work 12-hour shifts on both days and nights (6:00-6:00), and be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

      What Will Put You Ahead

        • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Paper Science or Mechanical) or related field
        • Associate degree in Engineering (Chemical, Paper Science or Mechanical) or related field with 2 or more years supervisory experience
        • 2 years or more of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
        • Paper and/or Pulp manufacturing experience
