Position Information: New Hanover County's Sheriff's Office is currently seeking a Public Relations Specialist to join the team. The Public Relations Specialist will be responsible for overseeing one or more social media accounts for the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. Their duties include creating and updating social media posting schedules, updating the Sheriff's Office App, replying to comments from subscribers, and coordinating with other professionals to determine how to market our brand and our services using social media. Additional duties include:
- Website and video productions
- Take and furnish appropriate photographs utilizing a digital camera
- Photograph Sheriff's Office-sponsored events
- Assist with set-up of meeting spaces, operate a projector and computer
- Provide the public and media with timely and accurate information in matters of public interest, when requested to do so by the Public Information Officer
- Provide a positive organizational image, as this position is highly visible and requires extensive public contact
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance, consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the Sheriff's Office
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is the principal law enforcement agency of New Hanover County, providing service to over 200,000 people within 185 square miles. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Communications or a related field and five (5) years of related public relations experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of public relations principles; web site management and software applications; media contacts and operations; and communication materials and applicable software applications.

Hours: Hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday - Friday Must be available to report for emergency work assignments during emergency situations. Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-exempt Salary Information: The salary range for this position is between $46,360 and $78,811 annually. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
