Location: Voorhees - 100 Bowman Drive Employment Type: Employee Employment Classification: Regular Time Type: Full time Work Shift: 1st Shift (United States of America) Total Weekly Hours: 40 Additional Locations: Job Information: Work Schedule: Mon to Fri, 9:00am - 5:30pm (No weekends or holidays). Job Summary: Supervises the daily operations of the Histology Lab areas to include outstanding customer service, staffing, scheduling, and workflow. Supports and provides technical expertise in analyzing, interpreting and validating laboratory procedures of various complexities on biological materials such as blood, body fluids, and tissues for Virtua customers. Assists Lab Manager in clinical, human resources, and administrative departmental functions. Communicates customer specific clinical instructions as required to ensure specimen integrity. Ensures department procedures and processes meet all regulatory compliance. May function as a highly skilled technologist in the department as appropriate to meet patient care needs. Position Responsibilities Supervises department operations in staff scheduling, training, competency, procedure drafts, and evaluation of new products. Supervises the daily workflow of the department, identifies and implements improvement opportunities that contribute to the betterment of the workstation, section and/or overall operation. Embeds tissue samples in paraffin correctly identifying type of tissue as well as normal and abnormal tissue components. Cuts tissue in ultra-thin sections modifying technique based on tissue type. Performs routine, special and immunohistochemical staining procedures. Understands the basic principles of immunology as they relate to problem solving and unexpected test results. Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special processing, selects correct protocol based on physician orders. Correlates laboratory tests to disease processes and understands basic physiology required to recognize appropriate test selection. Operates and maintains all histology lab equipment in a proper state of readiness and cleanliness. Performs and monitors inventory of supplies and reagents used; and identifies opportunities for cost savings of reagent and supplies. Keeps the Lab Manager informed of Histology area activities and seeks assistance, when necessary, from Lab Manager. In conjunction with the assigned director or manager, designs, directs and evaluates multidisciplinary performance improvement programs using the Virtua tool kit. Other duties as assigned. Position Qualifications Required: Required Experience: Minimum of five years histology experience, with at least 3 years as a Histotechnologist. Good interpersonal and time management skills. Demonstrated leadership ability. Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Histology, laboratory science, biological or chemical science or other relevant field. Training/Certification/Licensure: Valid certification as HT or equivalent or meets CLIA '88 educational requirements for high complexity testing. Hourly Rate: $39.44 - $61.14 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant's experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
