Job Summary


This is an inpatient position within Saint Francis/St Mary's hospitals Rehabilitation Services department. The Physical Therapist Assistant Per Diem (PTA PD) reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Physical Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The PTA PD works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated if the PTA PD's competency includes these populations. The PTA PD demonstrates knowledge within a wide range of diagnoses including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, and cardiopulmonary in the adult and/or pediatric setting. Under general clinical supervision of a Physical Therapist, the PTA PD assists the Physical Therapist with standard and more complex patient care activities and performs physical therapy procedures and modalities as identified in the patient's Physical Therapy plan of care. The PTA PD completes chart reviews of assigned patients to gather information relevant to clinical care. Without need for prior verbal instruction, the PTA PD independently initiates and follows the therapeutic intervention plan developed by the physical therapist. The PTA PD maintains all applicable patient records related to their delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the PTA PD may also delegate portions of a patient's therapeutic intervention to PTA students. The PTA PD actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including process improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in services and staff development activities

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $52.64 - $52.64 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant training program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association and possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Minimum of one year of licensed practice experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Basic computer skills including work within the established electronic medical record.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self -initiation skills.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations, once oriented to them.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF patient care setting.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.

License/Certification


  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant with the Physical Therapy Board of California
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for AHA BLS certification
