United States, Texas, Austin
Aug 18, 2025
What to Expect
This Manufacturing Engineer will design material flow for global factory design projects for vehicle and energy products. This role focuses on the end-to-end design of raw material and WIP flow, from concept design through handoff of a fully detailed plan to Operations. This role will design the inbound loading area, provide material handling headcount estimates, make equipment recommendations for forklift-free operations, and ensure the lineside space is efficiently designed.

What You'll Do
  • Develop End to End Material Flow Design for the entirety of the Bill of Materials for new products and new factories/expansions, while optimizing variables such as factory space, labor and throughput
  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, packaging and supply chain to drive Design for Manufacturability in future programs early in the design phase
  • Develop process designs that form the basis of high-volume production lines and support Tesla's industry-leading dimensional quality of the vehicles produced
  • Design innovative material flow strategies for a wide variety of materials for all production lines
  • Integrate forklift-free delivery strategies to support safety and drive efficiency
  • Participate in the development and review of early project planning documents such as project timelines, Requests for Quotations, FMEA's and Safety Risk Assessments
  • Arrange and participate in line design reviews of robot and tooling simulations, cycle time plans, and general line layout, driving optimization towards fundamental engineering limits
  • Improve/ Design models to aid with predicting material handling labor, warehouse space and material handling equipment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve safety, quality, and efficiency metrics duringfactory design

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or ElectricalEngineering or equivalent experience
  • Have working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability
  • Strong familiarity with structured problems solving methodologies (DMAIC, 8D, etc.)
  • 3D CAD experience in reviewing and modifying 3D models of tooling and product
  • Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly
  • Methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
  • Experienced with AUTOCAD, CATIA or other similar software/tools
