Join the V3 Team and take your career to the next level! We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our Team. This position can be based in the following V3 office locations: Charlotte (NC), Columbus (OH), Denver (CO), Indianapolis (IN), Chicago (IL) or Woodridge (IL).

Firm Profile

V3 is a 450-person consulting firm providing planning, design, construction engineering, construction management, and contracting services to an array of clients and market sectors. Those market sectors include Commercial & Institutional, Government/Municipal, Parks & Forest Preserves, Energy & Utilities, Residential, and Transportation. Its primary source of revenue is the fees received for consulting services rendered to clients. A portion of its revenue is derived from self-performed contracting projects that are undertaken in select infrastructure and ecological restoration markets.

The firm has grown over the past five years. V3 is currently operating under a five-year strategic plan that was established in 2022. The plan is focused on a growth strategy which calls for expansion into the Southeast and expanding service offerings in regions where V3 is currently present. Given that strategy, the firm will require increasingly sophisticated in-house financial acumen as it grows and becomes more financially complex.

Position Description

The accounting team currently consists of a CFO and eleven team members. Most team members' responsibilities currently focus on specific transactional areas such billing, payables, and payroll, while one team member assists with general ledger accounting and two team members are Business Analyst's. The accounting team's organizational structure is evolving with incorporation of new roles necessary to support the firm's growth, improve team management, and provide career paths for the accounting team.

V3 has added a Controller position to the accounting team organizational structure.

Controller Responsibilities

V3's Controller is responsible for directing the firm's accounting practices and procedures, including, but not limited to, maintenance of fiscal records, preparation of financial reports and providing structural controls that protect V3's assets. The Controller will also be responsible for managing a portion of the accounting team.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Supervising a portion of the accounting team that will report directly to the Controller.
  1. In conjunction with the CFO, the Controller will assist with accounting department functional activities such as payroll, account payables and receivables, project accounting (client invoicing) and financial reporting.
  1. Manage and assist with the monthly financial close.
  1. Support and assistance of corporate financial matters related to the firm's ESOP valuation and distributions, external financial and payroll audits, compiling information for the Board of Directors, Shareholders, and annual state and federal filings.
  1. Treasury role by assisting with managing of day-to-day bank transactional activities.
  1. Assist with execution of finance agreements for capital purchases related to vehicles, equipment and office improvements.
  1. Assist with annual business insurance applications.
  1. Assist with shareholder financial reporting and information needs.
  1. Manage and assist with annual budgeting and business planning.
  1. Preparation of various financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting as needs/interests in such analysis arise.
  1. Participation in improvement projects, as needs/interests arise. Examples include development/evaluation of dashboards, reporting for leadership, accounting system improvements, and assisting with implementation of new software to drive innovation in accounting processes.
  1. Assisting in the financial modeling, due diligence and integration activities related to V3's acquisition of other firms.

Qualifications

  • Experience with managing teams
  • Financial reporting for multi-company corporate structures (intercompany transactions)
  • Ability to understand accounting system workings to guide V3's Business Analyst's
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills
  • Advanced excel knowledge
  • Reporting skills/ability to work with data
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion
  • Analytical skills
  • Audit background, a plus
  • Construction accounting experience, a plus
