The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy-home to the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management-offers a distinctive academic experience at the intersection of data, technology, and policy. We prepare students to lead transformative change through rigorous analysis, technological expertise, and strategic leadership.

Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy is in search of an innovative and proactive Director of Public Policy and Analytics Programs. The selected individual will be responsible for esteemed programs, including the Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) with its Data Analytics and Washington, D.C. pathways, as well as the Master of Science in Healthcare Analytics (MSHCA). You will contribute to the department by designing inventive curricula, promoting student progress, and advancing the programs' influence at the convergence of policy, technology, and data.

Working under the Associate Dean, the Director will coordinate program elements, support students, align curriculum, track progress, report growth, and supervise the Academic Program Manager.

Your core responsibilities will include:
  • Act as a representative for Heinz College and its public policy and healthcare analytics programs.

  • Stay informed on public sector and healthcare industry trends, ensuring programs align with workforce demands.

  • Collaborate with Admissions, Career Services, and Marketing to recruit students and increase visibility with employers.

  • Build and maintain external partnerships that support the college and improve student opportunities.

  • Maintain continuous strategic evaluation of academic program offerings and their alignment with market needs.

  • Lead all aspects of the capstone project lifecycle, from prioritizing to student team management and assessment.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of new initiatives, such as partnerships, online and hybrid offerings, and certificates.

  • Develop and implement measures to evaluate program performance and outcomes for internal and external reporting reasons.

  • Optimize program operations and run budget(s) and financial forecasts.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills:

  • Excellent administrative, managerial, organizational, and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize work and work independently.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information to audiences of all sizes and backgrounds.

  • Leverage advanced computer and database management skills, with a high proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

  • Maintain confidentiality and data protection when handling confidential information.

  • Capable of performing successfully in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, ensuring timely completion of tasks with accuracy and high-quality output.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Business, Technology, or related field.

  • At least five (5) years of related experience in decision science/AI.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Completion of a successful background check.

Additional Information:

Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU or have equivalent experience in the United States. CMU or equivalent experience will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence 3 days a week.

Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed
