Job Details:
Mercer University is searching for an Executive Director of Infrastructure and Security Operations on the Macon, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director of Infrastructure and Security Operations provides strategic leadership for technology infrastructure while maintaining technical expertise to provide backup support during critical situations and staff absences. This working leadership position supervises network operations, system and server operations, and field support teams, while also being capable of personally handling basic network troubleshooting, identity and access management duties, telephony issues, and workstation deployment when operational demands require additional technical resources. Working closely with the vCISO, this position drives infrastructure modernization and institutional security governance while ensuring operational continuity through strategic oversight and supplemental technical involvement.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science and Technology, Cybersecurity, or related information technology is required, along with five years of progressive experience in information technology infrastructure with demonstrated advancement from hands-on system administration to supervisory and management responsibilities. Candidates must have experience in network troubleshooting, Active Directory management, telephony systems, and workstation deployment with proven ability to provide backup technical support when required. Candidates with a master's degree, Cisco networking, and/or Microsoft server certifications are preferred.

CompTIA Security+ certification is required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier as this position does require some travel.

Required Software:
  • System administration experience is required, particularly concerning applications used for deploying, managing, and configuring client devices, as well as ensuring endpoint protection and security patches on these devices.
  • Must be proficient in supporting Windows 10 and Apple desktop systems. Must be proficient in supporting and configuring the MS Office Suite, including Outlook, and utilizing it to perform necessary tasks.
  • Must have experience managing, handling backup functions, and applying security configuration for server operating systems.
  • Prior experience with Ivanti ITSM.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven ability to supervise technical teams while maintaining personal technical expertise for backup support situations. Demonstrated capability to translate technical security concepts into business language for diverse stakeholders: experience managing vendor relationships, budget planning, and project coordination in complex technical environments.
  • Working proficiency in basic network troubleshooting, including connectivity issues, DHCP problems, and equipment configuration.
  • Demonstrated experience with Active Directory user account management, group policy administration, and identity and access management procedures.
  • Basic telephony troubleshooting capabilities, including VoIP systems.
  • Hands-on experience with workstation and laptop imaging, deployment tools, and mobile device configuration.
  • Understanding of server operations, monitoring tools, and infrastructure maintenance procedures sufficient to provide backup support.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management methodologies, and regulatory compliance requirements, including FERPA, GLBA, PCI, and HIPAA. Experience developing security policies, conducting risk assessments, and implementing security controls in enterprise environments.
