Description AV Exhibit Technicians will be scheduled to provide daily coverage of the Desert Pulse exhibit during the Garden's hours of operation which range from 7am - 9pm daily. Open availability early mornings, evenings and weekends is required for these positions. Position Purpose Participate in the initial installation and provide ongoing daily maintenance and support of the Desert Botanical Garden audio/visual art exhibit FRAMERATE: Desert Pulse by ScanLAB Projects. AV Exhibit Technicians will join the artists, vendors and Garden Exhibits team to assist in the installation of 3D scanning time-lapse, multi-screen art installation Desert Pulse from September 15 - October 9, 2025. After the exhibition opening, AV Exhibit Technicians will maintain and provide daily technical support for the 4 monumental outdoor LED screen installations and the multi-channel indoor LED screen installation in the Garden's The RAF Exhibit Gallery from October 9, 2025 - May 10, 2025. AV Exhibit Technicians will collaborate with Garden staff, artists of ScanLAB Projects and outside vendors to maintain the highest technical and aesthetic standards of these monumental digital artwork installations. ScanLAB Projects is a creative studio, based in the UK, that works in pioneering 3D LiDAR scanning technology to create artworks, VR, installations, films and broadcast tv. The studio most recently produced the critically acclaimed immersive art installation, FRAMERATE: Pulse of the Earth that has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, SXSW and many more international venues. www.scanlabprojects.co.uk Essential Duties - Provide AV installation and logistical support from September 15 - October 9, 2025, in collaboration with Garden staff, artists ScanLAB Projects and outside vendors. - Provide AV installation operation, maintenance and basic troubleshooting during Garden daily operating hours, ranging from 7am to 9pm daily. - Work directly with artists and Garden staff to understand the themes and logistics of this monumental multi-screen digital art installation and it's 2.5 year journey that will culminate in this world premiere exhibition. Rate of Pay: $30 per hour Requirements Competencies This position requires specialties and experience in one or more of the following areas: * LED technology, installation and maintenance * Audio/Sound, experience with hardware as well as a "good ear" * General Computer Management, Networking/ IP / VLANS, experience with Mac products (Mac Mini) This position also prefers experience and working knowledge in: Physical technical installation * Mounting/hanging of AV equipment including but not limited to speakers, TVs, lighting, routers, wifi transmitters etc * Running power and data cables * Physical installation and maintenance of simple framing, mounting, trunking, gallery works type tasks that make good around technical fixing. AV setup, day-to-day running and maintenance * Familiarity with setup, running, testing of TV, Projectors, Playback systems (Macmini), Speakers etc Computer Hardware * Install, maintain, and troubleshoot IT equipment (Macmini's) * Proficiency in MacOS, iOS and Windows systems LED Systems Specialty (training provided) * Experience with LED panel mounting, alignment, and calibration * Knowledge of LED controllers and video processors * Troubleshooting dead pixels, color matching, and brightness issues Audio Systems Specialty * Critical listening skills and acoustic understanding * Experience with digital audio networks (Dante, AVB) Equipment and Systems AV Exhibits Technicians can expect to work with * LED Panels: Planar MGS & Unilumen * Media Servers: Mac Mini's, Windows workstations * Audio: Professional speakers, amplifiers, DSP systems * Network: Managed switches, wireless systems, monitoring tools * DMX controlled Lighting General Skills and Experience * Strong problem-solving under pressure * Excellent communication with technical and non-technical teams * Ability to lift 50lbs+ and work at height * Experience working in live public environments * Ability to work outdoors * Ability to work with technology and computers * Ability to learn how to use new equipment Qualifications / Certificates Aerial lift and fork lift operating certifications, training and support to be provided to obtain certification if needed. Equipment Used * Specialized AV hardware and tools provided by ScanLAB Projects and Garden Exhibits staff * Typical office equipment utilized for sharing data and communication * Mobile phones and handheld radios Scope of Authority Report to Desert Pulse project lead, Exhibits Design Specialist Internal Communication Frequent interaction with Garden Exhibit Department staff and Garden Ranger staff and other Garden teams as applicable. External Communication Frequent communication with artist team from ScanLAB Projects, AV vendors and other outside vendors. Working Conditions * Physical effort beyond what is required in an office environment * Potential for tight deadlines and rapid problem solving * Daily work in an outdoors in variety of weather conditions * The noise level in the work environment is moderate * Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service equipment * Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read and type * Manual dexterity and the ability to lift 50+ lbs Reasonable accommodations may be made, when necessary and feasible, to allow a qualified individual to perform essential job functions.
