About the Department
The Department of Population Health and Pathobiology trains doctors of veterinary medicine and scientists who will specialize in understanding and reducing disease in animal populations, particularly food animals. Disease in these populations poses serious risks to food safety, has economic implications, and, in cases where the disease is communicable to humans, is a significant public health hazard.
Our faculty are recognized experts in the fields of epidemiology and public health, pathology, microbiology, immunology, parasitology, pharmacology and risk assessment, and poultry, ruminant, and swine health management. Essential Job Duties

  • In vitro experiments in primary cell culture, performing immunochemical staining on cells and protein extracts, cytokine assays, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, cell toxicity, apoptotic and proliferation assays.
  • Independently supports and collaborates with cross-functional teams, including biologists, clinicians, and data scientists, to designs research activities for a single or multiple research projects.
  • Maintain research data record in laboratory notebooks and existing computer data storage systems and software.
  • Proficient use of computer software to accomplish scientific writing and data analyses. Periodically monitor equipment to evaluate proper functioning.
  • Establish an inventory process and maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Train the bench experiments to new undergraduate, graduate students and research fellows.
  • Demonstrate clear verbal & written communication skills. Well-developed people skills are highly desirable.
  • Assist the principal investigator in the preparation of research results for publication in scientific journals, funding applications, and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Handle necessary administrative paperwork and other documentation needed for lab operation and research projects (IACUC, BUA, lab inspection, lab inventory, lab supplies ordering, etc.). * Maintain mouse colony, including breeding, weaning, and mouse genotyping.
  • Supervise undergraduate, graduate, DVM, and research assistants.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work independently to collect data and analyzes research results.
  • Conduct research on the animal models of lung inflammation and employ single cell RNA sequencing approaches.
  • Conduct cell culture, western blotting, genotyping, rt-PCR, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry, cytokine estimation, confocal microscopy, rodent animal handling and survival surgeries.
  • Maintain transgenic mice lines (breeding and genotyping), administration of toxicants or drugs via various routes, Protein and RNA experiments, design and execution of experiments in mouse models of lung inflammation.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • MS in Biological, Immunological, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary medicine or related. Experience may substitute for education.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Animal handling, molecular biology techniques, and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Applicants should possess a background in data analysis, process modeling.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in immunology, toxicology, molecular biology during Masters training.
  • Relevant MS degree with 10 or more years of work experience.
